Annotate Image: Arrows, Text & Shapes
Mark up a screenshot or photo with arrows, boxes, text, highlights and numbered steps. Everything stays editable until you download the result.
Keyboard: V select · A arrow · L line · R rectangle · O ellipse · T text · N step number · P pen · H highlighter · Delete removes the selected annotation · Ctrl/Cmd+Z undo · Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z redo · With the picture focused: Enter places the chosen tool in the middle of the picture (with the Select tool it selects the next annotation), arrow keys move the selected annotation and F2 edits its text.
Example: marking up a news-site screenshot
A reporter wants to show readers which headline changed and where the image was published. The screenshot is the same size before and after; only the annotations are added on top: a red box around the headline, a highlighter over the photo, an arrow to the sidebar and two numbered steps.
What you can mark with each tool
- Arrow and line: point at one detail, such as a button, a figure in a table or a face in a group photo.
- Rectangle and ellipse: frame an area, a headline or a whole paragraph so that it stands out.
- Text: add a short label or caption directly on the picture.
- Step number: number the steps of a how-to in order.
- Pen and highlighter: circle something by hand, or sweep a see-through color across a line of text.
How to annotate a screenshot
- Drop or paste your screenshot into the box above. You can paste straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
- Pick a tool — arrow, box, text, numbered step, pen or highlighter — choose a color and size, and draw on the picture.
- Fix anything with Select, Undo or Delete. Then download the result, or copy it to paste into a chat or a document.
Tips for clear annotations
- Use one bright color for arrows and boxes, and keep it the same throughout the picture.
- Number the steps of a how-to with the step tool so readers know the order at a glance.
- Put text on a label or with an outline when the background is busy — it stays readable on any photo.
- To hide passwords or personal details, use Blur & Pixelate with the black box; a plain colored rectangle here is meant for emphasis, not privacy.

Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your own device. Your screenshot or photo is never sent to Imgovo or anyone else.
How do I add an arrow to an image?
Add your image, choose the Arrow tool (or press A), then drag from where the arrow should start to where it should point. Hold Shift for a perfectly straight or 45° arrow.
Can I move or change an arrow after drawing it?
Yes. Choose Select (V) and click any annotation. Drag it to move it, drag its handles to resize it, and change its color or size in the options — or press Delete to remove it. Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Shift+Z) cover every step.
How do I number the steps in a screenshot?
Pick the Step number tool (N) and click where each number belongs. They count 1, 2, 3 automatically. If you delete one, the next new number continues after the highest one that is left.
Can I hide passwords or personal details?
A colored box is not enough to hide private text — use the Blur & Pixelate tool and its black box option, then bring the result back here to add arrows and notes.
What is the highlighter for?
It draws a wide, see-through stroke, like a marker pen over text. Overlapping parts of the same stroke do not get darker.
Which file formats can I save?
PNG (best for screenshots and sharp text), JPG and WebP. The annotations are drawn onto the full-size original, so the saved image keeps the original resolution.
Can I copy the result straight to the clipboard?
Yes, use “Copy image” to paste the annotated screenshot into a chat, email or document. Some browsers ask for permission first, or do not support it — then use Download.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Draw with your finger; the page does not scroll while you touch the picture. Scroll by touching outside the image.
