Remove EXIF Metadata

Photos from phones and cameras often carry hidden data — device model, the exact time taken, sometimes even GPS coordinates. See what's inside your photo, then strip it all before you share it.

Drop an image here, click to choose, or paste from clipboardJPG, HEIC (iPhone), PNG or WebP · processed entirely on your device

Tip: re-encoding the photo through the canvas strips every metadata field at once — there's no way to remove just one field selectively with this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Reading and removing metadata happens directly in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. The file never leaves your device.

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is information that cameras and phones store inside a photo file: the device model, lens and camera settings, the date and time it was taken, and often the exact GPS location. It is invisible when you look at the photo but easy to read with software.

What exactly gets removed?

Everything except the picture itself: camera make and model, lens, settings, date and time, GPS coordinates, serial numbers, editing software, author and copyright tags, plus XMP and IPTC blocks and embedded comments. The clean copy is re-saved from the pixels only.

Do Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp remove EXIF data?

Most big platforms strip GPS data from photos they display publicly, but they may still read and store it themselves. Photos sent as files or documents, by email, via cloud links or on forums often keep all their metadata. Cleaning photos yourself is the safe option.

Will the photo still look correct after removal?

Yes. The clean copy is saved exactly as you see it on screen — right side up — so it no longer depends on the orientation tag that is being removed.

Why can’t I see any metadata on my PNG or WebP file?

PNG and WebP files rarely carry camera metadata, and many apps remove it when they save or send images. Imgovo checks JPG, HEIC (iPhone), PNG and WebP files. Even when nothing is found, downloading the clean copy is safe.

Does the clean copy lose quality?

Saving as PNG does not lose quality compared with the picture as the browser decodes it (8-bit, sRGB). JPG and WebP are saved at 95% quality, which is visually indistinguishable from the original for normal use.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Undo and Redo (buttons above the preview, or Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) bring back the previously chosen output format.
