Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The meme is made in your browser. The photo, the text and the finished file stay on your device, and there is no account. Saving a project writes a file to your device; “Save in this browser” keeps it only in this browser until you delete it.

Which formats can I download?

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. AVIF makes small files, but creating them takes longer and some older programs cannot open them, so choose JPG if you are unsure. The format you choose is the file you get.

How do I add text to a photo?

Add a photo, then type in “Top text” and “Bottom text”. Long text is wrapped automatically and shrinks to fit. For text anywhere else, or on a bar outside the photo, open “More options” and use “Add text block”.

Which font does the meme use?

The default “Impact style” uses Anton, a free open-source font (SIL Open Font License) that Imgovo loads from its own server, only on this page, so the classic meme look is the same on every device. Sans-serif, Serif and Monospace use fonts already on your device, so they can look a little different from one device to another.

Does Imgovo add a watermark?

No. The file contains your photo and your text, nothing else. You can add your own small logo under “More options”.

Can I save my work and continue later?

Yes. Under “More options” save a project file (.imgovo) to your device, or save it in this browser. Opening a project file reads it on your device only; a file from someone else is checked before it is opened.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Undo and Redo (or Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z) go back and forward through text, photos, panels, layers and settings.
