NEF to JPG Converter

NEF is Nikon’s RAW format. Convert NEF photos to JPG so they open in any viewer, email program or website — developed on your own device, with nothing uploaded.

Drop NEF images here, click to choose, or pasteSeveral files at once · JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, PPM and more · processed entirely on your device

Tip: RAW photos are “developed” on your device, which takes a few seconds per photo. A message at the top of the page shows the progress.

How to convert NEF to JPG

  1. Drop one or more NEF files into the box above — or click to choose them.
  2. Adjust the quality if you like — each file is converted to JPG straight away.
  3. Download a single file, or all of them at once as a ZIP.

Why convert NEF to JPG?

Supported cameras and limits

Tested withReal NEF files from the Nikon D80, the D700 and another Nikon DSLR.
Other modelsNEF and NRW (Coolpix) use the same decoder. Nikon’s newest compression modes, for example “High Efficiency” RAW in recent mirrorless bodies, may not be supported yet.
OutputJPG (8 bits per channel, sRGB) with a quality setting. The picture is developed on your device; the RAW file is never uploaded.
Not coveredCamera picture styles and film simulations, lens corrections and noise reduction are not applied, and the camera data (EXIF) is not copied.
If development failsThe JPEG preview stored inside the RAW file is used instead, and you are told so. A file without a usable preview gives a clear error message.

When this conversion makes sense

Use this when you shoot Nikon NEF and need JPGs for the web, a messaging app or a client preview, and you do not want to open a RAW editor for every picture.

Frequently asked questions

Which Nikon cameras were tested?

Imgovo was tested with real NEF files from the Nikon D80 and D700 and from another Nikon DSLR. Nikon’s newest compression modes (for example “High Efficiency” RAW in recent mirrorless bodies) may not be supported yet; if a file cannot be developed you get its built-in JPEG preview instead.

What is the difference between NEF and NRW?

Both are Nikon RAW files — NEF from DSLR and mirrorless cameras, NRW from Coolpix models. Imgovo opens both.

Will the JPG look like the one my Nikon makes?

Close, but not identical. Imgovo uses the white balance the camera recorded, sRGB colors and automatic brightness. Nikon’s Picture Controls (Standard, Neutral, Vivid …) are applied only to the JPG the camera makes itself, so a straight conversion of the NEF can look a little flatter. Adjust the result afterwards with the photo filters tool.

How long does a NEF take to convert?

In our tests on a computer, 10–12 megapixel NEF files were ready in about 2 to 3 seconds, including saving the JPG. Phones are slower. Several files are converted one after another.

Is the camera data (EXIF) kept?

No. The JPG is made from the picture only — no camera model, settings or GPS position are copied into it. The rotation stored in the RAW file is applied, so portrait photos stay upright.

What if my NEF file will not open?

Imgovo then shows the JPEG preview stored inside the NEF file and tells you so. In our test, a deliberately cut-off NEF still gave its built-in preview (3872 × 2592 px). If a file has no usable preview, you get a clear error message instead.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to Imgovo or anyone else.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many images as you like. They are converted one after another, and you can download each file or all of them together as a ZIP.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Undo and Redo appear above the list once you add files (or press Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z). They bring back a file you removed, undo “Clear all” and return to the previous quality or format — files are converted again automatically when needed.

Is the converter free?

Yes — free, with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit.
