Trim Transparent Edges
Cut away the empty, transparent space around a logo, icon or cut-out. The tool finds the visible content and crops to it exactly, without scaling it. Most PNG files are cut without re-encoding their pixels, and the file never leaves your device.
Tip: cutting out a background first? Remove Background leaves a transparent picture; trim it here, then turn it into an icon with the Favicon Generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The transparent edges are found and cut off directly in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
What counts as a transparent edge?
Rows and columns along the border of the picture in which every pixel is transparent. Imgovo looks for the smallest rectangle that still holds all visible pixels and copies exactly that part. Nothing inside it is moved or scaled.
What does the alpha threshold do?
At 0, every pixel that is not fully transparent counts as visible, so nothing you can see is lost. Raise the threshold to also cut off a faint, almost invisible shadow or glow at the edge: pixels with an alpha value up to the threshold are treated as empty.
Can I leave some space around the content?
Yes. The margin adds that many transparent pixels on every side of the visible content. If the original picture had less room than that, the missing space is added as transparent canvas.
Why does it say there is nothing to trim?
A JPG or any other picture without transparent pixels has no transparent edges. The same message appears when the visible content already reaches all four sides of the picture.
Which formats can I save?
PNG and WebP, because both keep transparency. WebP is saved lossless, so no pixel is simplified. An animated GIF or WebP is trimmed as a single picture, using its first frame.
Does saving change my pixels?
A PNG that is saved as PNG is cut directly in the file, so its pixels, color depth, palette and print size stay exactly as they were. Other files, and WebP output, are drawn on a browser canvas first. There, pixels that are only partly transparent can change color slightly, 16-bit color becomes 8-bit, and the color profile is not carried over. Imgovo lists what applies under the preview.
Can I trim many images at once?
Yes. Choose or drop several images (up to 50), pick any of them in the list to look at it, then download one picture or all of them as a ZIP.
Can I use the result in another tool?
Yes. After trimming, send the picture on to the Favicon Generator, Image to ICO, Extension Icon Generator or the Image Editor. It is passed on inside your browser; nothing is uploaded.
