Crop Image
Drag the selection box to crop your photo to exactly the part you want. Lock an aspect ratio, crop to an exact size for social media, screens or paper, or crop freehand — then download the result.
Tip: drag inside the box to move it, drag a corner or edge handle to resize. Pick a ratio above to lock the shape. Keyboard: focus the box, then use the arrow keys to move it and Shift + arrow keys to resize.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Cropping happens directly in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. The file never leaves your device.
What is the difference between an aspect ratio and an exact size?
An aspect ratio such as 16:9 or 4:5 only decides the shape of the selection; the result has as many pixels as the selection holds. An exact size such as 1080 × 1350 also decides the number of pixels: the selection gets that shape and the result is scaled to it. Choose “Crop and resize to exact pixels” (or a size preset) for the second.
What happens if my selection has fewer pixels than the size I chose?
The tool tells you. You can enlarge the picture (no new detail is created, so it may look soft) or keep the selection’s own pixels, which gives a smaller result with the same shape. It is never decided silently.
Where do the social media sizes come from?
Sizes that the platform states on its own help page are marked “Official”, with a link to that page. Widely used sizes that the platform does not require are marked “Common”, and older or display-only sizes are marked “Legacy”. Platforms change their layouts, so check the platform before you publish.
Which file formats can I open and save?
You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, SVG, PPM and camera RAW files. You can save JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, TIFF and PDF. PSD, PostScript (PS, EPS, AI), OpenDocument drawings (ODD, ODG) and PDF files cannot be opened here, and SVG and GIF are not offered for saving: a cropped photo is a raster picture, and an animated GIF would lose its animation.
What happens to transparent areas?
PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and PDF keep transparency. JPG and BMP cannot, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default), and the tool tells you when that happened.
What happens to an animated GIF or WebP?
This tool works with a single picture, so only the first frame is used, and the tool says so. The Animation Tools keep every frame.
Which aspect ratio should I choose?
16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, presentations and widescreen displays; 9:16 for Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts; 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts; 4:5 for portrait Instagram posts; 3:2 and 4:3 for classic photo prints; 21:9 and 32:9 for ultra-wide screens.
What does “Original ratio” do?
It locks the selection to the same shape as your photo, so you can trim the edges without changing the proportions.
Can I crop with the keyboard?
Yes. Click or tab to the selection box, then use the arrow keys to move it and Shift + arrow keys to resize it. Hold Alt for 1-pixel steps.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping itself only removes pixels at the edges — the rest stays exactly as it was. Saving as PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP are saved at high quality. Scaling to an exact size larger than the selection cannot add detail.
Can I undo a change?
Yes. Undo and Redo (buttons above the picture, or Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) bring back the previous crop box, aspect ratio and size after every drag, every resize and every preset you choose.
