How to Add a Watermark to Photos (Single Images or Up to 100 at Once)
On this page
Short answer: open Imgovo’s Add Watermark tool, add your photos (up to 100), type a text or choose a logo, set position, opacity and margin, and download the result. For several photos you get one ZIP file. The watermark is drawn in your browser, so your photos are not uploaded.
Why watermark photos
- Credit and branding: photographers, shops and creators mark their work with a name, a website or a logo.
- Discouraging reuse: a visible mark makes it clear who made the picture. It does not stop copying completely (see the limits below).
- Drafts and proofs: a diagonal mark across the picture shows that an image is a preview.
Text or logo?
| Type | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Names, websites, copyright lines | Choose size, colour and style |
| Logo image | Brands and shops | Use a PNG with a transparent background |
Settings explained
| Setting | What it does | Default or tip |
|---|---|---|
| Text size | Font size in pixels | Set on the first photo and scaled to each photo’s width |
| Colour | Text colour | Pick one that contrasts with the photo |
| Text style | Soft shadow, outline or plain | Soft shadow is the default and keeps text readable on busy photos |
| Logo width | Size of the logo | Defaults to 18% of the photo’s width |
| Opacity | How see-through the mark is | Defaults to 70%. 30–50% suits a subtle brand mark |
| Margin | Distance from the edge in pixels | Keep it large enough to avoid being cropped |
| Position | Where the mark sits | Choose from the position control |
| Repeat diagonally | Tiles the mark at an angle over the whole image | Hard to crop out, but covers more of the picture |
Step by step
- Open the Add Watermark tool.
- Add your photos. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF and other formats are accepted, up to 100 at once.
- Choose text or logo.
- Set size, colour, style, opacity, margin and position. The preview shows the original and the watermarked version side by side.
- Choose the output: the same format as the original, or JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Download. A single photo is saved as a file, several photos come as a ZIP.
You can undo and redo every setting, the position, the logo and the photo list with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z (Cmd on a Mac).
Watermarking a batch
When you add many photos, the preview shows one of them. Size and margin are set on the first photo and scaled to the width of each other photo. That means a landscape and a portrait image get a mark of a similar relative size.
Two practical points:
- Check the preview for the smallest and the busiest photo in the batch, not only the first one.
- If some photos cannot be read, they are skipped and listed in a message, while the rest still go into the ZIP.
If you also want to crop, resize and rename the photos in the same pass, the Batch Photo Editor has its own watermark step with nine positions and a diagonal repeat option. See How to crop many photos to the same ratio.
Choosing position and look
- Bottom corner: least intrusive, easy to crop out.
- Centre: hard to remove, but spoils the picture.
- Diagonal repeat: protects best against cropping, and is typical for proofs.
- Contrast: white text with a soft shadow works on many photos. On very bright photos, use a dark colour.
- Size: big enough to read on a phone, small enough not to dominate.
What a watermark cannot do
No watermark is fully tamper-proof. A mark that is part of the pixels is harder to remove than one that sits as a layer on top, especially across detailed areas, but nothing stops a determined person from retouching it out. Treat it as a label of origin, not as protection. If the photo has real commercial value, share a smaller, lower-resolution copy.
Also, the watermark is not the same as metadata. Photos can carry hidden location and camera details. The watermarked copy is drawn from pixels, so those are not part of it. To learn more, read How to remove GPS location and EXIF data from photos.
Shrinking before you watermark
If you want smaller files for the web, resize the photos first with Resize Image so the mark stays sharp at the final size.
Privacy
The watermark is drawn in your browser. If you use “Continue in the editor”, a temporary local copy is valid for 10 minutes, and a copy that nobody opens is removed at the next clean-up. To check where any site processes your files, see Are online image converters safe?.
Do it now
Open the Add Watermark tool, add your photos and write your name or load your logo.
Frequently asked questions
Can I watermark many photos at once?
Yes. You can add up to 100 images, the same watermark is applied to each, and the results download as one ZIP file.
Can I use my logo as a watermark?
Yes. Use a PNG with a transparent background so only the logo itself is drawn on the photo.
What opacity should I use?
The default is 70%. For a subtle brand mark, 30–50% usually works well. Use a higher value if the watermark must stay clearly visible.
Can a watermark be removed?
No watermark is fully tamper-proof. A watermark that is baked into the photo is harder to remove than an overlay, especially over detailed areas, but a determined person may still be able to remove it.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The watermark is drawn in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API, so the photos stay on your device.
What happens if one photo cannot be read?
Unreadable photos are skipped and named in a message. The rest are still added to the ZIP.
